Diss & District Camera Club
Chairman's Newsletters
2010-2012 Season
22/12/2011
Greetings camera club friends
It’s almost Christmas which means we’re half-way through our season – so I thought a Chairman’s Newsletter would finish off 2011. Let’s start with ...
The Exhibition
We cannot go to the Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s Redgrave and Lopham Fen for our exhibition. The visitor centre is becoming an educational resource only.
So instead we’ve been looking at alternatives — the favourite so far is our new friends at the Diss Golf Club. It has ample parking, food and drink facilities, and plenty of space. I’ll be following this up early in the new year.
In the meantime, if you’ve any ideas for themes, please mention these to Sylvie and Viv.
Interesting Web sites
Charles gave us a quick introduction to RAW processing at our speed dating meets photography evening. Shortly afterwards a news item popped up. A company called X-Rite is offering a free guide to Adobe Camera Raw 6. The link is:

Although not quite photographic — I was chatting with someone at the club about higher powered low energy light bulbs, especially those which have a higher colour temperature and more useful for lighting spaces where one is looking at a photograph. This is where I get mine:Anything for sale?

I’ve had a suggestion that this newsletter could be used to announce photographic items for sale or wanted. Let’s give it a go, if you have a photographic item for sale or if you’re trying to find a gadget that someone else might have, please let me know, and I’ll include it in the next newsletter.Next season’s programme
One of the easy parts of being the programme secretary for the following season is that one doesn’t actually have to do anything until after the new year. And by the time we next meet it will be the new year! So if you’ve any ideas for the 2012/13 season, please let Margaret know.
January 2012 — is very busy
After initially thinking that January next year is a bit relaxed, it has become our busiest month of the season. We have:
- 17 January 2012 — The Audio Visual/Film night — remember Viv’s tutorial at the speed dating night. Looking forward to some creative shows.
- 24 January 2012 — an extra Photoshop night — this is in preparation for those coming along to the Photoshop course — but I’m sure there is something for all.
- 31 January 2012 — A visit to Diss Golf Club — more details early January.
Keep an eye out for Sylvie and Viv’s updates. That’s it for now ... Best wishes for your festivities.
See you in 2012
Alan
